Services available without visiting a clinic

If you can’t get to a clinic, you may be able to get the help you need elsewhere without visiting a clinic.

 

STI Testing

We offer tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) which you can order online and take at home if you do not have any symptoms. Online tests are available for people aged 16 and over in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.

The kits can test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV, and come with full instructions on how to take your test. It also has information on how you will get your results.

Contraceptive Pills

There are two types of oral contraception available:

  • The Combined Pill – this contains oestrogen and a progestogen.
  • The Progestogen-Only Pill (POP) – sometimes called the ‘mini pill’, this contains a progestogen only.

You can get oral contraception from your GP or some pharmacies.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception can stop a pregnancy happening after sex without contraception, if contraception fails or it is used incorrectly. There are two emergency contraception options:

  • Emergency IUD (copper coil)
  • Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) – sometimes known as ‘the morning after pill’

Emergency hormonal contraception can be accessed at all GPs, sexual health clinics, some community pharmacies and school nurses.

Condoms

The C-Card allows you to get free condoms from a range of places (e.g. some schools, colleges, shops, clinics and pharmacies). It is available to people aged 13 or over. You can also register for a C-Card online if you are aged 16 or over.
